The benefits of working with a personal trainer

1. Teaching you

A personal trainer will show you how to perform exercises correctly and safely. If you’re new to the gym, getting the technique right is vital.

2. Helping you

When exercising alone, you won’t always notice if you need to adjust your posture, position, or movements. Personal trainers monitor and guide you throughout.

3. Staying up to date

Personal trainers must stay up to date with industry trends and new training methods, which will save you the time and energy conducting your own research.

4. Reaching your potential

Personal trainers are passionate and supportive, but they’ll also coach and challenge you to push yourself to your full potential.

5. Being accountable

Sometimes, it can be hard to get to the gym or a struggle to stick to your plan. A personal trainer will hold you accountable and encourage you to stay committed.

6. Just for you

Personal trainers will create a tailored training programme that’s entirely designed around your unique needs, abilities, goals, and progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a personal trainer?

A personal trainer (PT) is a qualified individual who has the knowledge, skills and abilities to design and deliver one-to-one effective and engaging exercise programmes, safely. They help their clients to achieve their health and fitness goals, such as weight loss, fat loss and improved sports performance. They are especially beneficial if you’re new to the gym, want to learn how to use specific equipment or techniques, need a confidence boost or a little extra motivation, or if you have a particular goal.

How much do personal trainers’ cost?

The cost of a personal trainer is not included in your PureGym membership. Please speak to any member of the PureGym team to discuss prices.

How long are Personal Training sessions?

Typically, a personal training session will last 60 minutes, which includes time to warm up and cool down.

How often should I have a session?

How often and for how long you decide to work with your personal trainer will depend on your fitness goals. Chat to your PT about their packages and agree a schedule upfront. Some personal trainers offer discounts when you buy sessions in bulk.

How do I choose a personal trainer?

Having a personal trainer can make a huge difference to your workouts, fitness and motivation. When choosing your personal trainer, consider the following…

  • Specialties: Some personal trainers have qualifications and expertise in particular areas, such as weight loss, sports coaching, nutrition, and rehabilitation. Choose a PT that’s best qualified to help you with your specific goals.
  • Experience: Some trainers may have more experience training different groups or types of members (for example, sports professionals or those who are new to exercise). It's always useful to ask the personal trainer about their levels of experience and the other types of clients they work with.
  • Availability: If you prefer to exercise in the morning, afternoon or evening, during the week or at the weekends, then it’s a good idea to check your PT is going to be regularly available at the times that fit your schedule and requirements.
  • Personality: Seek a personal trainer who will understand your goals and needs. We all have different learning styles and respond differently to different types of coaching. Choose someone who you believe you would enjoy spending time with - and who will get the best from you.

What happens during my first session?

In your first session, your PT will assess your abilities, experience, and discuss your aims. They’ll monitor you as you perform a handful of exercises, and they’ll take your body measurements to evaluate and record your current fitness levels. Don’t be worried about your initial assessment - It’s so your trainer can understand your baseline and keep track of your progress.

Just as you would when training alone in the gym, wear breathable, comfortable sportswear and trainers. Bring a towel and a bottle of water with you, along with anything else your PT suggests.

I already have a Personal Trainer, can I train with them in a PureGym?

To protect the health, safety and security of our members, all personal training sessions in our gyms must be conducted by a PureGym Personal Trainer only. Our female personal trainers only operate from PureGym Woman locations, and our male team train only in our male gyms.
